Many of you have experienced that observation, evaluation, feedback changes behaviour. Typically in a positive direction. This process, however, requires valuable time from the manager and staff concerned. Together with Penny's commercial area management and IT manager, we looked for an innovative AI-based solution to such a challenge.


Even as ordinary shoppers, we prefer to buy fruit and vegetables when the counter is full of nice, fresh produce, so it's easy to see how a nice, well-stocked counter can generate immediate extra revenue and improve customer satisfaction.


This hypothesis was confirmed by Penny's commercial management using a manual control. However, to establish this control for a national store network based on a human team alone is a hopeless task. Just imagine that someone would have to take photos of the counters continuously, send them immediately to the head office, and someone at the head office would have to evaluate these photos 8 hours a day according to the same principles and give immediate feedback, comparing the practices of the individual stores. If anything, AI seed solutions based on machine learning could certainly be used for this.


We have proposed to Penny how to address this challenge cost-effectively with an artificial intelligence machine learning solution. We are now beyond the successful pilot and preparations for a national roll-out have begun. Naturally, elements of the solution can be reused for other product lines, creating immediate revenue growth and customer satisfaction.
